About the Author
Robin Kelley lives in Chippewa Falls, WI with her daughter, Terra, and her husband, Brian. She went to the University of WI-Stout to receive her degree in Art Education and has taught all K-12 grades in 5 school districts for the last 20 years. She currently teaches K-5 art at Halmstad Elementary School in Chippewa Falls.
The idea for this book started with the phrase “Ostriches Eat Sausages” being stuck in her head. About nine years ago, thinking of how it would make a neat children’s book title, she asked her third grade art class in River Falls, WI for ideas for rhyming animals with food.
One Outreach illustration class and many, many years of finding time to draw while raising two little girls later, and the book was finished!
Besides art, Robin also loves reading, camping, traveling and exercising in any form.
On November 3rd, 2018, Robin led Jayna’s, her youngest daughter, Girl Scout Troop on their first “Adopt-a-Highway” community service highway clean-up project. They were almost done when a drug-influenced driver of a pickup truck crossed the center line and ran into the troop, severely injuring a sister of a troop member, and killing Jayna, two other troop members, and a mother.
The loss of Jayna, who was only 9 years old, inspired Robin to finish this children’s book. The family was also inspired to create the Jayna Kelley Memorial Foundation to honor Jayna by helping children and their families in the community.
If any profit were to come of this book, the Foundation would benefit. Helping a community, whether close to Chippewa Falls or beyond, is one way Robin can continue to heal her heart.
